Staffing

We have some staffing changes for the remainder of the year.

We farewell Miss Elle Walker from Room 10 who has taken a promotional position at Roeburne Primary School - Mr Cameron Robinson will be taking on this position until the end of the year.

I can also confirm that Mrs Jaclyn Mitanoski will not be returning to Somerly Primary School - Mrs Nicolette Kilian will take on this position in Room 17 for the remainder of the year.

Mrs Tamara Sumegi, Room 6 will commence her maternity leave from Week 4 and on behalf of the staff we wish her the best of luck for the arrival of her new family member.

As I will be commencing my maternity leave shortly, I would also like to take this opportunity to wish you all the best of luck for the remainder of the school year and commencement of 2023 and I will return to Somerly Primary School in Term 2.

School Development Day

On our recent school development day, all staff participated in a workshop run by Shaping Minds. Shaping Minds is a company that provides ongoing professional learning, coaching and support for schools and teachers to ensure consistent delivery of evidence-based teaching practice. The workshop covered information on cognitive science, including working memory and long-term memory as well as maintaining student attention, participation and engagement. Staff will now participate in observations of practice at school and at other high performing schools. We will continue our ongoing connections and provide staff with further professional learning throughout next year.

School Board

The next School Board meeting will take place on Tuesday 25th October at 9.15am. Minutes are available upon request from the school office and further parent representatives are needed.

P&C

The next P&C meeting will take place on Tuesday 25th October at 6.30pm in the staff room. All are welcome to attend. A big focus will be planning and final preparation for the school disco. Parent helpers are still required for this event.

Planning 2023 and Student Placement

The complex process of planning for 2023 class structures and assigning staff has begun. It is important that detailed and accurate planning is completed so that we have enough staff for the commencement of the school year. If you are leaving Somerly Primary School and have not yet advised the front office, please do so as soon as possible.

Planning classes for 2023 is no easy task and staff spend considerable time and effort to ensure suitable placements, balancing every individual student’s needs, including academic, social, emotional, and behavioural. I do ask that if you have a specific requirement or consideration that you please put this in writing to myself as soon as possible. Please note that all requests will be considered, but cannot be guaranteed.

Reminders

As the warmer weather approaches, please remember students need a sun smart hat. Black school hats can be purchased from the school office for $5. We would also like to remind students and parents to bring a water bottle and fruit or vegetables for Crunch and Sip.

New students

I would like to extend a warm welcome to Elijah and Jaymie who recently commenced at Somerly Primary School.
