Principal’s Report
Dear Parents/Caregivers
Our vision is to foster every individual’s academic and social development driven by high expectations for success and aspirations for them to become resilient, respectful individuals. We want this to happen within a safe, supportive learning environment that caters for the present and developmental needs of every student.
Welcome Back
We have enjoyed a great start to Term 2 with students being engaged in learning activities as well as special events.
ANZAC Day
Somerly Primary School Student Councillors were invited to attend the ANZAC ceremony at Cambrai Retirement Village on Thursday 25th April. I attended the ceremony along with Arthur Ventham, Somerly Primary School Board Chair, his wife Mrs Ventham, student councillors - Alia and Devon. I was extremely proud of these students as they respectfully participated in laying of a wreath on behalf of Somerly Primary School.
On Friday 28th April we held our ANZAC service in our memorial garden. The service was conducted by members of our school leadership team, under the coordination of Mrs Sneddon. Our service was attended by special guests including Mr Arthur Venthum, School Board Chair who presented a moving speech to our students and reciting the ode, his wife Mrs Venthum, Warrant Officer Bruce Williams who spoke to the students about meanings of ANZAC, Daniel Jarvis, Kylie Rudd - P&C President, Mark Folkard MLA for Burns Beach and his service dog Chey, Councillor Glynis Parker and Tracey Roberts MP also provided a floral wreath for our service. During the week all students completed various class activities to understand the importance of ANZAC day.
Our School Choir lead the National Anthem and our Kapa Haka Group performed the New Zealand National Anthem.
