Principal’s Report
Dear Parents/Caregivers
OUR SCHOOL VISION IS TO SUPPORT STUDENTS IN BECOMING STRONG, THOUGHTFUL AND INDEPENDENT INDIVIDUALS WHO ASPIRE TO BE THE BEST THAT THEY CAN BE. OUR ETHOS OFFERS STUDENT CENTERED EDUCATION THAT IS FOCUSSED ON BOTH THE PRESENT AND DEVELOPMENTAL NEEDS OF STUDENTS.
We have enjoyed a very busy start to the year. Our Year 5 and 6 students have been very fortunate to have some good weather for their swimming lessons at Yanchep Lagoon. They are all having a good time learning swimming skills in the ocean. Thank you to all staff who have supported our students, ensuring they are safe and challenging themselves to achieve their best.
Our Pre-Primary to Year 2 students are currently participating in on entry assessments. This provides our teachers with baseline data to inform differentiated student planning and goal setting to impact student achievement.
P&C
The P&C Association allows for parent participation and involvement in the school. It helps to promote and support communication and cooperation within the school community and to bring educational matters to the attention of the wider community. The P&C raise money to invest in services and resources to enhance the learning programs offered at schools. They work closely with the school to identify needs and direct funds to support those needs.
The P&C held their AGM where a new P&C Executive Committee was nominated for 2023.
President: Kylie Rudd; Vice President: Rose Manson; Secretary: Kris Watkins and Treasurer Tanya Viandante.
I would like to thank the Executive Committee for 2022 for their amazing commitment and contributions to our school community: Dee Bell, Sharni Coster, Ashlea Bradley, Nik Chauhan.
The P&C are always supportive for new members to join. We are very appreciative that they are continuing with the organisation of our Breakfast Club and Wednesday Sausage Sizzle. Please see a member of the P&C to volunteer some time in these roles.
Leavers’ T-shirts
If you still require a leavers t-shirt, this is your last chance to order. Please go to Uniform Concepts in Clarkson by Monday 27th February to place an order. Thank you to Tanya Viandante for organising this for our Year 6 families.
Swimming Lessons
In-term swimming is provided by the Department of Education and helps to ensure children develop vital swimming and water safety skills. Swimming lessons for Pre-primary – Year 4 are scheduled in Weeks 5 and 6, at Aquamotion in Wanneroo. Notes have gone home and are due back this week, payment must be made prior to attending swimming lessons. Please speak to front office staff if you need to make financial arrangements.
Years 5 & 6 students complete their swimming lessons on Friday, please continue to ensure they are sun protected and have all their belongings labelled.
Assembly Friday 24th February 2023
Our Student Leadership team will be running the assembly on Friday 24th February. Parents are welcome to attend. This is not a class assembly, however there will be Merit Certificates presented.
Positive Behaviour
Our staff have reviewed and updated our behaviour matrix, this document reflects our values and expectations for our students.
Thank you to all our students who regularly display these behaviours. Parents please be mindful if your child receives a gotcha card, it is because they have demonstrated a positive behaviour and are on their way to earning a keyring.
New students
I would like to extend a warm welcome to Kaycian, Tuiatua, Alfie and Joseph who recently commenced at Somerly Primary School.

Please take the time to discuss road safety with your children, especially crossing our roads, using the designated traffic wardens who are available before and after school and keeping to footpaths when arriving at school.
