Principal’s Report

Dear Parents/Caregivers

OUR SCHOOL VISION IS TO SUPPORT STUDENTS IN BECOMING STRONG, THOUGHTFUL AND INDEPENDENT INDIVIDUALS WHO ASPIRE TO BE THE BEST THAT THEY CAN BE. OUR ETHOS OFFERS STUDENT CENTERED EDUCATION THAT IS FOCUSSED ON BOTH THE PRESENT AND DEVELOPMENTAL NEEDS OF STUDENTS.

Remembrance Day

Thursday 11th of November 2021 was Remembrance Day. Every class participated in an activity throughout the week as well as observing 1-minute silence. I was lucky enough to be able to join Arthur Ventham, School Board Chair and two of our Student Councillors at the local Cambrai Village Remembrance Day Service. Cambrai Village is a local RAAFA retirement village and it was a privilege to represent the school at such a memorable event.

The residents really valued the school’s attendance, and we were presented with a Certificate of Appreciation. I would like to recognise and thank our two Student Councillors for the way they conducted themselves. We are looking forward to next year and to developing further connections with Cambrai Village.

P&C

A big thank you to the P&C for their donation to the school which enabled the purchase of some new board games for the senior block and library. These games will be fantastic for use by our students during lunchtimes and wet weather.

Also, a big thank you to the P&C for their assistance with organisation of the school leavers shirts for 2022. Over the last few years we have had a number of difficulties with the school leavers shirts for a variety of reasons. In preparation for 2022 the P&C have sourced some new designs and leavers prints for our current Year 5 students, they have recently voted for their favourite design. Uniform Concepts will now source the shirts and will organise printing. These shirts will be available for purchase in the new year directly from the uniform supplier.

The next meeting for the P&C will be held on Wednesday 1st December at 6pm and all are welcome.

School Board

The final School Board meeting will be held on Monday 29th of November at 9am. This will be the last board meeting for the year. A reminder that the minutes of the School Board meetings are available to read at the front office.

Class Structures

With the end of the term fast approaching, we have begun placements for class organisation in 2022. Class structures for next year will result in a few multi age classes across the school. A number of considerations are taken into account including, staffing, class structures, needs of students including academic, social, emotional and behavioural. The make-up of classes and placement of children is made in consultation with the teachers and their extensive knowledge of all students. Please remember to let the school know if you will not be returning to Somerly Primary School next year.

  • We have our equipment ready and keep our work area tidy
  • We ask for help with our school work when needed

Students Late to School

If your child arrives late to school, they are missing critical morning routines and learning activities. The school day begins at 8:40am and students will be considered late if they do not arrive by this time. If your child arrives after 9:00am you are required to enter through the front office and provide us with a reason for the lateness. A late slip will be printed for you to give to the class teacher.

Not Feeling Well?

If your child is not feeling well before school, please keep them home and notify the office by phoning 6206 4200, sending an SMS to 0437 480 486 or emailing somerly.ps@education.wa.edu.au.

Late Collection of Students

Somerly Primary School has a student finish time of 2.45pm each day. If your child has not been picked up before 3pm, you will be required to come to the front office to sign them out.

Pre-Primary for 2022

All existing Kindergarten students are required to enrol for Pre-Primary in 2022. To complete the enrolment process, it is necessary for you to come to the school office as soon as possible to sign your child’s enrolment card and update your child’s information, if you have not already done so.

This process will ensure your child’s placement in our Pre-Primary program for 2022.

If your child will not be returning to Somerly Primary School in 2022, please advise the school office as soon as possible.

Containers for RSL

Over the next two weeks we will be collecting containers to help our Veterans of War so please donate your eligible containers, including glass bottles (not wine).

Thank you
