Principal’s Report
Dear Parents/Caregivers
Colour Run
Congratulations to Tyler in Kindy for being the highest fundraiser at our Colour Run which was held on the last day of term 3. I wish to extend a big thank you to all students and parents for your active participation in the event. Through everyone’s generosity the P&C raised a whopping $5,474.80.
Mayor’s Christmas Appeal
Once again we will be participating in the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal; all donations will be distributed to those that are less fortunate throughout the community.
Non Perishable food items can be placed in the donation bin, which is located in the front office. We will be accepting donations until Friday 16th November.
Lost Property
There is an overwhelming amount of unlabelled lost property that has accumulated over the last two terms. Please make the time to come and look for any items your child may have misplaced, as all lost property not claimed by Friday 7th December will be donated accordingly. The lost property is placed outside of the medical room at the rear of the Admin building.
Stranger Danger
With the weather warming up, students are more likely to walk or ride bikes and scooters as a means of getting to and from school. Please take the time to talk to your children about being safe, what being safe means and what to do if they find themselves in a situation where they do not feel safe.
P & C Wednesday Lunch
Due to swimming lessons taking place from Monday 19th November for 2 weeks, there will be no P & C lunch on Wednesday 21st and 28th November 2018. The last P & C lunch for the year will be on 5th December and students will receive a free candy cane with their lunch order on this day.

Behaviour Focus
Our behaviour focus for Week 6 is:-
SAFETY;
WHOLE SCHOOL
We keep hands, feet and objects to ourselves.
Students Late to School
If your child arrives late to school, they are missing critical morning routines and learning activities. The school day begins at 8:40am and students will be considered late if they do not arrive by this time. If your child arrives after 9:00am you are required to enter through the front office and provide us with a reason for the lateness. A late slip will be printed for you to give to the class teacher.
Not Feeling Well?
If your child is not feeling well before school, please keep them home and notify the office by phoning 6206 4200, sending an SMS to 0437 480 486 or emailing somerly.ps@education.wa.edu.au.
Late Collection of Students
Somerly Primary School has a student finish time of 2.45pm each day. If your child has not been picked up before 3pm, you will be required to come to the front office to sign them out.
The Fathering Project
The Fathering Project was launched at Somerly Primary School in 2018. Thank you to all the Dads and Children who participated in the events this year.
The Fathering Project is an opportunity to have fun with your kids and become part of a strong and supportive network of Dads and father figures connected to Somerly Primary School. We will aim to host an event each term in 2019 to continue to build on this initiative. If you would like to be part of the Somerly Primary School Fathering Project, or have ideas for events, please contact Andrew Britton on 6206 4200.

Reading Eggs
We are very excited to announce the launch of our world renowned online reading program ‘Reading Eggs’, which will be available to all students from Kindy to Year 6, from week 7 or 8. Following a placement test, which will be conducted with your child’s teacher, your child will have FREE home access to exciting, engaging, developmentally appropriate online games, activities and books to support their reading development from now, right through the school holidays and until the end of next year (current Year 6 will be able to access the program until towards the end of January).
We invite you to one of our parent information sessions on this program at 9 am next Tuesday 20 November, or 3 pm next Tuesday 20 November in the Library.
We hope that you are able to make one of these times to find out for yourself the benefits of the program, and how you can best support your child.
An SMS will be sent for you to register your attendance.
