Principal’s Report

Dear Parents

End of Semester Reports

All teachers at Somerly Primary School are currently preparing students’ reports, the teachers are reporting against the Western Australian Curriculum Standards.

This semester we will be utilising the Kindergarten reporting template for all Kindergarten students. The report will include information on:

  • Student learning in the 5 areas of development
  • Suggestions of how families can support their child at home
  • Attendance
  • Teacher comments

All reports for students from Kindergarten to Year 6 will be delivered electronically to parents. Parents will be emailed a link to their child’s report. This delivery method will ensure the timely delivery of all school reports. Reports will be available to parents on June 29th. Should you wish to amend your email address please contact the school on 9407 7142.

L.O.T.E. Assembly 2017

On the 19th May the students from Rooms 9, 10, 11 and 12 participated in the L.O.T.E Italian assembly.

The Year 3’s sung the three songs beautifully, even though some were feeling overwhelmed standing in front of the whole school.

The Year 6’s proudly showed their outstanding Carnevale masks that were made during Term 1 using a variety of L.O.T.E. art materials.

Thank you to the class teachers and Miss Olsen for assisting with the assembly.

Mrs McCulloch – LOTE Teacher

Uniforms

With the mornings now being very chilly, we are encouraging all students to wear their school jacket or jumper to school. A plain black jacket is also acceptable. Please make sure your child’s name is written in them to avoid being put into lost property.

Lost Property

We have a large amount of lost property located in the green buckets outside the medical room. If you have misplaced an item at school, please check the buckets.

Kindy Enrolment for 2018

We are now taking Kindergarten applications for 2018, if you have a child that was born between 1 July 2013 and 30 June 2014 please come into the front office for an application form.

As Kindy is non-compulsory, enrolments will be on a first in basis.

When applying we need a copy of your child’s birth certificate or passport, visa if applicable, current Medicare immunisation details and proof of address.

Students Late to School

If your child arrives late to school they are missing critical morning routines and learning activities. The school day begins at 8:40am and students will be considered late if they do not arrive by this time. If your child arrives after 9:00am you are required to enter through the front office and provide us with a reason for the lateness. A late slip will be printed for you to give to the class teacher.

Not Feeling Well?

If your child is not feeling well before school, please keep them home and notify the office by phoning 9407 7142 or sending an SMS to 0437 480 486.

Late Collection of Students

Somerly Primary School has a student finish time of 2.45pm each day. If your child has not been picked up before 3pm, you will be required to come to the front office to sign them out.

Dogs on School Grounds

Dogs are wonderful pets; however, like children they require care, education and restraint. Some of our students have an aversion to dogs while others have an allergy associated with dogs. Please support these students and refrain from bringing your dog onto school grounds.

The Magical Pathway

We have a vision to create an inviting nature play area for our Kindergarten and Pre Primary students. This area will be located behind the demountable building in the ECE area. Our wonderful art teacher, Miss Bartley, has painted an artist’s impression of what this area could look like. We would like to create a pathway from tree stumps with an archway at either end. Along the back of the demountable building we would love to provide the students with a mud kitchen and a teepee. To achieve this we need the help of our generous school community. Donations of the following would be greatly appreciated: mud kitchen, pots/pans/old cooking equipment, x2 archways, plants to grow over the archway, long and sturdy branches or wooden planks for the teepee, plus any other interesting items that could be added to the area. If you are able to donate time and skills to work in our garden it will be greatly appreciated. Bring your donations to Mrs MacNicol in Kindergarten, Room 5.
