Principal’s Report
Dear Parents
Numeracy Open Morning
On Thursday 6th April all parents and family members are invited to attend school and participate in some hands on mathematic activities. This is a great opportunity to see and experience what your child/children are currently learning in mathematics. Classrooms will be open to parents between 8.30 and 9.15.
At 9.30 our Getting it Right Numeracy specialist, Mrs Vikki Longhtorn will be presenting a 30 minute parent workshop in the library. The workshop will focus on how parents can support their child’s numeracy development at home. We look forward to seeing you on the day.
Anzac Day Ceremony
All parents and community members are invited to the school ANZAC ceremony on Friday 28th April, commencing at 9.00am around the school’s commemorative garden located at the rear of the library. If anyone has any flowers they could donate for our wreath and displays, we would be most appreciative. If you are able to donate flowers they can be left at the office on Thursday 27th April.
Harmony Day
I would like to send out a thank you to all students, parents and staff for their efforts in ensuring our Harmony Day celebrations were a huge success. A great day was had by all, with the students participating in an orange free dress day and an art activity that represents the theme ‘Everyone Belongs’. Finally a big thankyou to our hard working P&C members for organising and cooking our first sausage sizzle for the year.
School Uniform
As the weather finally starts to cool down and become a bit chilly in the mornings, a reminder to all parents and students that jackets/jumpers are to be Somerly Primary School uniform or a plain black jacket. Please label all clothing, as our lost property bins tend to grow considerably over the cooler months. Uniforms can be purchased from Lowes, located at Ocean Keys Shopping Centre.
School holidays
School will break for the first term holidays on Friday 7th April with students returning to school on Wednesday 26th April.

Year 4 Assembly
MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU
Critics have raved about last week’s Year Four assembly, with one reviewer even stating;
‘Almost as good as Star Wars
itself!’
- Mr Gane
The Year Four students have clearly learned a lot about how different forces are used in different ways for different effects. From the idea that we use push and pull to play certain games through to the basics of gravity, these students not only entertained but also taught the audience a thing or two! Well done to all Year Four students – a marvelous performance!
Waste Wise
Congratulations to our Waste Wise winners.
Student Update Forms
Thank you to all the parents who have returned the Student Update Form. If you have not yet returned the form would you please do so as soon as possible. If no changes are necessary please tick the “No Corrections Necessary” box, sign and return the form to your child’s teacher or the school office. It is essential that we have up to date information that allows us to contact parents in an emergency.
Students Late to School
If your child arrives late to school they are missing critical morning routines and learning activities. The school day begins at 8:40am and students will be considered late if they do not arrive by this time. If your child arrives after 9:00am you are required to enter through the front office and provide us with a reason for the lateness. A late slip will be printed for you to give to the class teacher.
Not Feeling Well?
If your child is not feeling well before school, please keep them home and notify the office by phoning 9407 7142 or sending an SMS to 0437 480 486.
Late Collection of Students
Somerly Primary School has a student finish time of 2.45pm each day. If your child has not been picked up before 3pm, you will be required to come to the front office to sign them out.
Learning Focus
Block 3 – Year 4
It sure has been a busy start to the term for Year Four students! Not only has there been a lot of learning completed around the core subjects, we have had the luck and enjoyment of using lots of different technologies through ICT. The students have had the opportunity to use iPads and laptops to learn about computer coding and have gone on to translate these skills into robotics!
Further to this, the children have really enjoyed learning about the forces of push and pull and have had the opportunity to both create and play games while explaining the forces involved to complete the game successfully!
Finally, the students of Room 13 enjoyed a cooking experience brought to us by Food Bank and all Year Four students enjoyed the Constable Care incursion on Tuesday the 21st of March!
With all this and more, it’s no wonder Term One has flown by so quickly! We know it will be the end of the year before we know it and we look forward to all the learning to come! Year Four rocks!
