Principal’s Report
Our vision is to foster every individual’s academic and social development driven by high expectations for success and aspirations for them to become resilient,
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we come to the close of another busy and vibrant term, I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for all of your support. The partnership between home and school is such a vital part of what we do, and it has been wonderful to continue building positive partnerships with so many of you.
I would also like to a moment to express my thanks to all of our teachers and staff for their incredible hard work, dedication, and care for our students throughout the term. Their commitment to creating a positive and supportive learning environment is truly appreciated, and we know how much it means to both students and families alike.
Change to Time School Gates will be Open
To ensure the safety and proper supervision of all students, please note that the school gates will now open at 8:00am. We ask that children are not dropped off before this time, as supervision will only be available from 8:00am onwards. Thank you for your cooperation and continued support in keeping our school community safe.
Procedures for Arriving Late
We would like to remind families of the importance of arriving at school on time each day. Arriving punctually helps children to:
- Start the day calmly and positively
- Settle into routines with their classmates
- Avoid missing key learning at the start of lessons
- Develop good habits that will benefit them throughout life
Lessons begin promptly at 8.40am with class doors opening at 8.30am. We ask that all students are through the school gates and ready to begin learning by this time.
However, if your child does arrive between 8.40am and 9.00am can you please take them straight to class where their teacher will mark them in as late. You only need to take them straight to the office if you arrive after 9am.
Communication of Majors
From term 4 information regarding ‘majors’ which students have received will be communicated via email on the same day. This change is being made to ensure that parents receive information in a timely manner, as we recognise that parents aren’t always available to take a phone call. These emails may be followed up with a phone call by a member of Administration if it is felt to be necessary.
Please ensure that the email address we have on file is up to date and regularly monitored. If you need to update your contact information, kindly reach out to the school office at your earliest convenience.
E-Scooters Not Permitted for Travel to School
We would like to remind all families that children are not permitted to ride e-scooters to school as it is against the law for children under 16. We also remind parents who ride e-scooters to drop off or collect their children that the following laws apply.
- only one person can ride the device at a time
- riders must wear helmets
- the device cannot exceed 10 km/h on footpaths
- the device cannot exceed 25 km/h on bike paths, shared paths and local roads.
We also ask that children and students dismount from e-scooters, push bikes and scooters and walk with them when on school grounds so that they don’t endanger other members of our community.
Finally I would like to wish all our staff, families, and children a restful and enjoyable holiday and look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready for the new term!

Behaviour Focus
Our behaviour focus for Week 10 is:-
- Respect in the classroom and outside
We respect other people’s opinions and ideas.
Students Late to School
If your child arrives late to school, they are missing critical morning routines and learning activities. The school day begins at 8:40am and students will be considered late if they do not arrive by this time. If your child arrives after 9.00am you are required to enter through the front office and provide us with a reason for the lateness. A late pass will be given to you for you to give to the class teacher.
Not Feeling Well?
If your child is not feeling well before school, please keep them home and notify the office by phoning 6206 4200 or emailing somerly.ps@education.wa.edu.au.
Late Collection of Students
Somerly Primary School has a student finish time of 2.45pm each day. If your child has not been picked up before 3pm, you will be required to come to the front office to sign them out.
Planning 2026
The complex process of planning for 2026 class structures and assigning staff has begun. It is important that detailed and accurate planning is completed so that we have enough staff for the commencement of the school year. If you are leaving Somerly Primary School and have not yet advised the front office, please do so as soon as possible.
Planning classes for 2026 is no easy task and staff spend considerable time and effort to ensure suitable placements, balancing every individual student’s needs, including academic, social, emotional, and behavioural. We do ask that if you have any specific requirements or considerations, please put these in writing and pass to the front office as soon as possible. Please note that all requests will be considered but cannot be guaranteed.
All existing Kindergarten students are required to enrol for Pre Primary in 2026. To complete the enrolment process, it is necessary for you to come to the school office as soon as possible to sign your child’s enrolment card and update your child’s information. This process will ensure your child’s placement in our Pre-Primary program for 2026.
NAIDOC Excursion
Connecting to Country: NAIDOC Reflections
As part of our NAIDOC celebrations and our ongoing commitment to Indigenous cultural learning, students from Year 1 to Year 6 attended an excursion to Yanchep National Park over several weeks.
During their visit, students took part in three engaging On Country experiences that deepened their understanding and appreciation of Noongar culture and connection to land:
- Cultural Education Session – A 45-minute session exploring Noongar culture, featuring a didgeridoo demonstration and an introduction to the cultural significance of local plants and animals.
- Guided Trail Walk – A nature walk around Loch McNess, highlighting the coastal wetland environment and traditional Noongar uses of native plants, including the yanget (bullrush).
- Art Activity – A creative session where students reflected on the natural surroundings through artwork inspired by the local landscape, animals, and birdlife.
Our Kindy and Pre-primary students also enjoyed a special cultural incursion. Supported by their Year 6 buddies, they participated in story sharing, bead threading, rock painting, and turtle weaving.
It was a wonderful experience for all involved and thankfully, the rain stayed away! Back at school, students extended their learning by writing reflections and recounts, capturing their new insights into culture, country and community.

eRideable Safety
Dear Parents and Guardians,
With the school holidays approaching, we want to remind you about the importance of eRideable safety.
We encourage you to take some time to watch the four safety videos we've shared with your family. These short, informative videos highlight key safety rules and regulations and are a great way to reinforce the messages we've been sharing at school.
You can find the videos here:
- City of Wanneroo eScooter video 1
- City of Wanneroo eScooter video 2
- City of Wanneroo eScooter video 3
- RAC 8 eScooter Rules Every Rider in WA Should Know
For a detailed guide to all eRideable rules, please visit the Road Safety Commission: https://www.wa.gov.au/organisation/road-safety-commission/erideables
After the holidays, the City of Wanneroo will be conducting a short survey to gather your feedback on the project. This is a great opportunity to share your thoughts, and as a thank you for your participation, all completed surveys will be entered into a draw for a chance to win vouchers. So take the opportunity to learn as much as you can before then!
Thank you for your continued support in making our community a safer place.
Sincerely,
Somerly Primary School and the City of Wanneroo
International Dot Week 2025 Celebrations

During week 9 - September 15th -19th both students and staff at Somerly Primary School came together to celebrate International Dot Day 2025, inspired by the book ‘The Dot’ written by Peter H Reynolds. An inspiring story to inspire confidence, self-discovery and sharing through an arty outlet. Students across the school participated in Art activities involving sketching, painting and creating a whole school Dot Day sticker mural consisting of approximately 4000 stickers being placed to create our special school mural. Our staff also felt inspired to dress in dot/polka dot patterns to celebrate the occasion. So many wonderful artworks were created over the week.
