Principal’s Report
Dear Parents/Caregivers
Our vision is to foster every individual’s academic and social development driven by high expectations for success and aspirations for them to become resilient, respectful individuals.
As we approach the halfway point of Term 3 we have had an exciting week celebrating Book Week. We started the week with Kindy showing us their amazing costumes and their favourite books in our Monday communication assembly. Throughout the week children have been enjoying a wide range of fun activities including pop-up story telling sessions at lunch, afternoon tea with grandparents and the amazing World Book Day parade this morning.
With Book Week coming to a close today I would like to thank Mr Gane and all the staff for all their hard work in putting on so many fun activities for the children to enjoy. I hope you enjoyed watching the children in their amazing costumes; could you guess the characters’ names and books they came from?

Behaviour Focus
Our behaviour focus for Week 5 is:-
We are learning to: be respectful by using kind words and manners when speaking to others
This is because: everyone is entitled to feel respected and feel valued.
What we will see:
- People speaking calmly
- People using kind words
- People listening when others speak to them
Students Late to School
If your child arrives late to school, they are missing critical morning routines and learning activities. The school day begins at 8:40am and students will be considered late if they do not arrive by this time. If your child arrives after 8.40am you are required to enter through the front office and provide us with a reason for the lateness. A late pass will be given to you for you to give to the class teacher.
Not Feeling Well?
If your child is not feeling well before school, please keep them home and notify the office by phoning 6206 4200 or emailing somerly.ps@education.wa.edu.au.
Late Collection of Students
Somerly Primary School has a student finish time of 2.45pm each day. If your child has not been picked up before 3pm, you will be required to come to the front office to sign them out.
Planning 2026
The complex process of planning for 2026 class structures and assigning staff has begun. It is important that detailed and accurate planning is completed so that we have enough staff for the commencement of the school year. If you are leaving Somerly Primary School and have not yet advised the front office, please do so as soon as possible.
Planning classes for 2026 is no easy task and staff spend considerable time and effort to ensure suitable placements, balancing every individual student’s needs, including academic, social, emotional, and behavioural. We do ask that if you have any specific requirements or considerations, please put these in writing and pass to the front office as soon as possible. Please note that all requests will be considered but cannot be guaranteed.
Parent/Teacher Interviews
Parent Teacher interviews will occur on Wednesday 10th September. The school will close early at 11:45am. If you require afterschool care TheirCare will be available from 11:45am.
An invitation to book for interviews will be opened from Wednesday 27th August until Tuesday 9th September 2025. Please book in early as the best spots fill quickly. The interviews will be available from 12pm until 5pm.

Student Shoutout
Somerly Primary School students Hazel and Tessa performed as part of their Indigenous dance group named The Saltwater Sisters on 11th July, as part of the NAIDOC Week celebrations. They represented the school with pride, showcasing their culture through dance in a moving and powerful way. We take this opportunity to celebrate their participation and the significance of their cultural expression with our wider school community.

Italian Assembly Room 8 Year 5
The Year 5’s from Room 8 lit up the stage with their spirited performance of the Italian song “I Want to Be in Italy!”—their enthusiasm and joy were contagious! A big shout-out to the speakers who kept the assembly flowing smoothly and gave their classmates a hand during rehearsals. The showstopper was without doubt the Italian skit—Ben and Gitta wowed everyone with their fluent Italian, while Lucas, Oli, Jenna, and Violet brought plenty of laughs with their comic touches.
