Principal’s Report
Our vision is to foster every individual’s academic and social development driven by high expectations for success and aspirations for them to become resilient, respectful individuals.
Kaya Families,
Our Book Week was a huge success, what a fun way to celebrate reading. We hope you enjoyed the change in routine for the book character parade, we are keen to hear feedback regarding the book parade, book fair and Grandparent’s afternoon tea. We were so delighted to see so many grandparents attend, thankfully the Djilba weather held back, and we were able to enjoy the gentle breeze as we gathered and shared stories. Thank you for your attendance and spending time at Somerly Primary School with your grandchildren.
It was also encouraging to see so many children reading and enjoying the books and investigation packs that were purchased from the book fair.
This week we are looking forward to participating in our sporting events, Jumps and Throws were scheduled for today, and our school Athletics Carnival will be held Friday 6th September. Our P&C are supporting this event by hosting a sausage sizzle and Theircare are also lending their support to the P&C. We hope you can attend to cheer on our students as they compete and show their sportsmanship throughout the day.
Today, Wednesday 4th September we celebrate Indigenous Literacy Day, sharing the diverse ways children, elders and families connect with country, the theme is “Be a proud voice for Country”. Our students will be enjoying stories through books and film, sharing culture and languages. If you would like to watch the film, you can log into the site and register for a free video Indigenous Literacy Day (indigenousliteracyfoundation.org.au)
During this week we would like to acknowledge the amazing work of our Education Assistants, they are commended for their outstanding effort, care and time they give to support our children every day. We were able to provide them with a special morning tea, sponsored by Theircare. We value and appreciate everything they do to support our school community. The next time you see one of our Education Assistants, please take a moment to say, “Thank You!”

Behaviour Focus
Our behaviour focus for Week 8:
We are learning to: be safe in the playground by keeping our hands, feet and objects to ourselves.
This is because: everyone is entitled to play safely.
What we will see:
- Students playing in a responsible way.
- Rules being followed.
- Students using polite and respectful words when speaking to each other.
- Students seeking adult support when issues can’t be resolved.
- Sports equipment being used correctly.
Students Late to School
If your child arrives late to school, they are missing critical morning routines and learning activities. The school day begins at 8:40am and students will be considered late if they do not arrive by this time. If your child arrives after 9:00am you are required to enter through the front office and provide us with a reason for the lateness. A late slip will be printed for you to give to the class teacher.
Not Feeling Well?
If your child is not feeling well before school, please keep them home and notify the office by phoning 6206 4200, sending an SMS to 0437 480 486 or emailing somerly.ps@education.wa.edu.au.
Late Collection of Students
Somerly Primary School has a student finish time of 2.45pm each day. If your child has not been picked up before 3pm, you will be required to come to the front office to sign them out.
