Principal’s Report
Our vision is to foster every individual’s academic and social development driven by high expectations for
Kaya Families,
Wow, what an unexpected start to the term. Not only for our school grounds, but also for many of our school community who were also impacted by the flooding.
We were so fortunate to have two local schools who welcomed our students whilst our school was being repaired. Mrs Chaloner at Clarkson Primary and Mrs Crawford at Clarkson Community High School, both provided our students with a learning environment that our students enjoyed and were able to continue educational activities.
Our amazing staff worked both at the schools and offsite to prepare activities for our students in these learning environments, including work packages for students staying at home. Teachers have accessed SeeSaw to assist in keeping in touch with families and our Education Assistants supported our students in these unfamiliar areas.
Thank you to all our school community for your kind words and support throughout the week. Our Admin team worked tirelessly throughout the week to ensure they responded to emails and provided updates to families.
I would like to acknowledge the inspiring work ethic of our Deputy Principals, Mrs Elliot and Mrs Williamson, with their continuous support we were able to offer clear leadership, communications and support for our community.
During the week I met with Mr Turnbull, School Board Chair and Mrs Cutili (P&C President) to ensure we were aware of our community concerns, they were also involved in all decisions made on behalf of our school community.
I would also like to acknowledge the generosity of Bunnings Mindarie, who donated pencils and balls for the students, and delivered some gorgeous mats for our classrooms, which have been delivered to rooms and children have enjoyed.
Almost all classrooms, have new flooring, it was decided that the flooring needed to be replaced rather than cleaned. All our playgrounds have been cleaned and the sandpits emptied and filled with clean sand. Our Administration building has also had new carpet laid and will be refurnished. The Education Department have worked very quickly to get our school back up and running. It was wonderful to welcome students back this week, our Year 5 & 6 students will return to Somerly Primary School on Monday 29th April.
